THE DICKENS PROJECT 2016 
Opens December 10th

 Water Haven, Second Life – The 2016 Edition of Seanchai Library's annual celebration of English literary giant Charles Dickens, The Dickens Project, will open in Second Life on Saturday, December 10th with over 20 hours of live events of all kinds, spanning eight days, to benefit Team Diabetes in Second Life. This year's Project is sponsored by Kultivate Magazine and will take place on Kultivate's headquarter region, Water Haven.

The Dickens Project is in its fourth year, featuring live presentations of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol along with other works by the author. The different staves (i.e. chapters) of Charles Dickens' "ghostly little book" will be presented at different times of day during the week, December 12-16, to make the live readings accessible to residents from all over the globe. 

 New features this year will include the "Eight Days of Dickens" mini-hunt, and expanded music events. Kultivate Magazine has opened up their half-region event space so that this year, more than ever, visitors can "walk in the steps of Ebenezer Scrooge."  Dedicated areas for Christmas Past and Yet to Come, designed and built by Caledonia Skytower  and Aoife Lorefield respectively, compliment the central market square "Present" area. 

 "We think of Charles Dickens and his work in the past tense, under the colossus of 'greatest novelist of the Victorian era,'" said Caledonia Skytower of Seanchai Library, "The elements that make A Christmas Carol timeless and compelling played a part in earning him that title." Seanchai Chief Storyteller, Shandon Loring, added of Dickens' 1843 work, "It has never fallen out of favor, never been out of print.  It has been endlessly adapted.  Its publication came at a time when the English were re-examining how they celebrated the holiday and what it meant.  A lot of what we think of today as "traditional" to the holiday can trace its genesis back through this work."  

 Also new this year is a Resource Center created by the Community Virtual Library at their home on Bradley University.  Visitors can use a "tele-portal" to travel directly to the Resource Center to find out more about the issues impacting Dickens' work.  What was Tiny Tim suffering from, anyhow?  Find out what scholars think, and then take a handy "tele-portal" back to The Dickens Project main site.  There will also be a number of other one-way "tele-portal" options for visitors who love Victoriana, Literature, and Art. 

 The finale is scheduled for Sunday, December 18th, a marathon “Big Read” presentation of A Christmas Carol performed in relay style: "all the words of every stave presented in one session by a cast of voices."  That presentation will be preceded by musician Wald Schridde, presenting traditional ballads and dance tunes from the 17th and 18th centuries.

Events are free to all Second Life Residents, and donations will be accepted for Team Diabetes in Second Life.

 Seanchai Library (Shanna-key, which means "Storyteller" in Irish.) was founded in March of 2008 in Second Life. Thousands of stories, and hundreds of authors later, the program remains dedicated to promoting the power of stories to transform and inspire through live voice presentations: "We bring stories of all kinds to life, in Second Life."

According to the World Health Organization, almost 400 million people worldwide are affected by diabetes. A group of caring persons who are affected by diabetes personally or who have very close friends and family members with diabetes, decided to create Team Diabetes of Second Life. Team Diabetes of Second Life is an official and authorized team of The American Diabetes Association. 

 Our focus is to bring awareness and dispel the myths of diabetes. We will hold a variety of fundraisers in support of The American Diabetes Association and we invite you to plan your fundraising events to help fight this global epidemic.

 The following people are working hard to bring Team Diabetes of Second Life to Second Life! Team Diabetes of Second Life was founded by Jessii2009 Warrhol and Johannes1977 Resident. The structure of Team Diabetes of Second Life is in the form of an advisory board. At the head of the advisory board is the coordinator. Neither the members of the advisory board or the coordinator are paid for their work, contributions, or services to Team Diabetes of Second Life.

EARTHQUAKE RELIEF IN ITALY





In the early morning hours of August 24th,2016 tragedy struck Italy. Mother Nature decided to lay her strong quivering hands on the ground of the mountainous central regions, causing a 6.2 magnitude earthquake.

 At least 290 people have died across the region, many more have been injured. Countless homes and businesses have been destroyed, the town of Amatrice is in ruins. This disaster has left many people with nothing but the clothes they were wearing when the earthquake began. 

This is a tragedy that many of us can’t imagine. We’ve been lucky to live in places that mother nature has not yet forsaken.  For many of us, this tragedy and similar events like it are just a passing story on the nightly news. For those in Italy the story has become reality.  In times like these, it is important to remember that no matter where you live in the world you can help. Survivors need emergency supplies like food, water, and medicine. They also have long-term needs like shelter and help with rebuilding.  
We are lucky here in Second Life to be able to spend our days surrounded by people from all over the world. We may be nothing more than pixels on a computer, but behind those pixels are real human beings that live, breathe and love.

 Marvelous events, along their staff are setting aside everything in real life and in second life on September 17th, 2016 to support Italy. This will be a day to honor their Italian staff, friends and anyone in the SecondLife Community who have been affected by this disaster.

 Marvelous Events shopping district will be holding events in The Lounge all day on Saturday, September 17th. Marvelous Events will be donating 100% of their proceeds from the event sales, 100% of Donations to The Lounge and the Dj’s are graciously donating 100% their tips as well to the Croce Rossa Italiana (Italian red cross).

 What’s in store for the day? 
·        For music lovers, we have amazing Dj’s spinning tunes from 6am-10pm in the lounge.
·        For shoppers, all our shops will be open and ready for you to browse.
·       Their will be random prize giveaways throughout the entire day from our Marvelous Designers.
·       Our sim sponsor, Posh Pixels has offered to create a OOAK gown to be auctioned off.                             100% of the proceeds donated to the cause. 
        
This will be an amazing event that you don’t want to miss. Marvelous Events owners and staff hope to make a difference for the people suffering in Italy. This is your chance to help out those in need.

 Whether you have been lucky enough to never experience a disaster like this or you have been part of one in the past, you can help make a difference by participating in the events on Saturday September 17th.
